1 - What is COP30?

COP 30 is the 30th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, an annual global meeting to discuss and negotiate actions to combat climate change, which will be hosted for the first time in Brazil, in the city of Belém, between the 10th and 21st of November 2025. The main objective of the event is to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and is a historic opportunity for the country, which will host the conference in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest.

COP30 will be held between November 10th and 21st, 2025, in Belém, in the state of Pará, Brazil. This will be the first time that the Amazon region hosts the event, highlighting the strategic importance of the forest for the planet's climate balance.

COP30 will be participatory, bringing together heads of state, ministers, diplomats, representatives of civil society, the private sector, NGOs, activists, scientists and students from Brazil and more than 190 countries. There will be different forms of participation, such as access to the Blue Zone for official negotiations, registering to volunteer and submitting climate solutions, social technologies and public policies for evaluation and presentation at the conference.

Brazilian civil society organizations have until this Tuesday (30) to accredit themselves, through the Brasil Participativo Portal, and join the Brazilian delegation at the 2025 United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held from November 10 to 21, in Belém (PA).

The COP30 events in Belém will take place mainly in Parque da Cidade, located in Sacramenta, a large area of ​​500 thousand m² that was a former airport. In addition, the city will have Porto Futuro II, with restored historic warehouses that will house the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, the Amazon Museum, Caixa Cultural and a gastronomic port, creating a new hub for the city. Another important legacy will be the Nova Doca Linear Park, along the Doca canal and Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco.

To go to Belém for COP30, you can arrive by plane via Belém International Airport (BEL), which is being expanded for the event. You can also arrive by car or bus, depending on where you are coming from, but it is important to note that Belém Airport is closer to the center of Belém. He has extensive experience in the Social and Environmental fields and has also been responsible for strategic areas such as Institutional Relations and Communication. He worked for nearly 20 years in the Chemical and Petrochemical sectors. For 11 years, he was President of the Trata Brasil Institute, where he helped make the organization a national benchmark, coordinating dozens of studies, research projects, and initiatives aimed at mobilizing society for the expansion of basic sanitation in the country. While still at the helm of Trata Brasil, Édison won the "FAZ DIFERENÇA – Personalidades 2012" award from the newspaper O Globo (Revista Amanhã category), as the most outstanding individual in the field of Sustainability in Brazil. He is currently President of the Aegea Institute.

In this position, Fabiana is responsible for AMAGGI's ESG commitments and goals in Brazil and internationally, covering, among others, the following topics: i) traceability and combating deforestation, ii) decarbonization, NetZero, and regenerative agriculture, iii) protecting human rights, iv) sustainable finance, and v) sustainable business. Along with her team, she has also contributed to AMAGGI achieving important recognitions, such as one of the highest scores in the CDP Florestas (Center for Forestry and Agricultural Production) rankings, as well as a global leader in the Forest 500 ranking. Pedro Villela

Bio: Pedro Villela is a sociologist with a degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj) (2005), a master's degree in Public Health from the Institute of Social Medicine at Uerj (2008), and a master's degree in Health, Population, and Social Policies from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, France, and Linköpings Universitet, Sweden (2009). Maria Cecilia F. Ferronato

Bio: Maria Cecilia Fiordoliva Ferronato is a biologist with a master's degree in Biodiversity and Conservation of Fragmented Habitats from the State University of Londrina (UEL). She has over 15 years of experience in the environmental field, with extensive experience in the development and management of initiatives focused on biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, and nature-based solutions. Ana Carolina Carregaro

Bio: Ana Carolina Carregaro is the Director of Public Affairs at Nestlé Brazil, playing a strategic role in connecting the company with the public and private sectors. With a solid academic background—a law degree from the Catholic University of Santos, a master's degree in Latin American Integration from the University of São Paulo (USP), and a certification in Global Advocacy from George Washington University—the executive has built a career marked by work in public policy, sustainability, and institutional relations.

At Nestlé, Ana Carolina leads initiatives focused on sustainability and innovation, representing the company at prominent events such as the Climate Conferences. She attended COP27 and COP28, participating in discussions on decarbonization in the food sector. She represented Nestlé at UN headquarters in 2024 to present advances in the transformation of food systems at the Ambition 2030 session. Bio: Ricardo Gravina is a prominent figure in the field of impact entrepreneurship and climate innovation. He is currently the co-CEO of Climate Ventures. Bio: Prof. Ting Lin is the Director of Multi-HAZard SUStainability (HazSus): From Earthquake to Climate Science and Engineering, as well as Faculty Affiliate of the National Wind Institute and Climate Center. Lin is the Founding Co-Chair of the ASCE SEI Advances in Information Technology Committee and Co-Author of Confirmation & Update of SEI Vision for the Future.

She has served on delegations/working groups/committees under COP15/COP30, NEHRP, SCEC, EERI/COSMOS/SSA, NIST, UJNR, & NASEM. Her work has been implemented in hazard mapping, modeling software, and building codes & guidelines. Prof. Lin is a contributing author of the Global Assessment Report (GAR) 2025 and a plenary speaker at the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. She is on a mission to save as many as possible via Global Sea-Level Rise Model (GSLRM). Lin completed her B.S. Bio: Elim Sritaba is the Chief Sustainability Officer at APP Group, a global leader in forestry, pulp, and paper. Since 2013, she has led the implementation of APP’s Forest Conservation Policy (FCP) at Sinar Mas Forestry.

With over 20 years of experience in finance, forestry, supply chain management, and business strategy, Elim serves on several influential boards and committees.

Recently appointed as Deputy Head of the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce for SDG and ESG (2024–2029), Elim also contributes to key advisory and executive bodies, including the ASEAN Investment Framework Advisory Committee, the APINDO SDGs Committee, the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the Advisory Board for the ASEAN Innovation Business Platform.

With 20 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, I have developed a solid career in strategic marketing, communication and product development with a focus on reducing environmental impact.

Currently, I am responsible for sustainability and external communication at Compass Gás e Energia, where I lead strategic initiatives in energy transition. My work focuses on promoting sustainable solutions, with an emphasis on quantifying environmental and social impacts, and building more robust and transparent reports and controls. I have training in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) from MIT and coordinate the LCA group at ABNT, the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, reinforcing my commitment to sustainable development in all my professional activities.

Patricia Acioli

Krishna Bikram Shah

Position: Executive Director, Pro Bono

Bio: Krishna Bikram Shah is the Executive Director Pro Bono at Global Compact Nepal, the local network of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), a voluntary non-binding United Nations pact to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. Before joining the Global Compact in 2019, Krishna was the Executive Director Pro Bono at Hoste Hainse, a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) that caters to sustainable community development through education (www.hostehainse.org).

Krishna serves as an advisor to the board of GoodWeave Nepal, an organization that is dedicated to ending illegal child labour primarily in the hand-knotted rug manufacturing industry (www.goodweave.org), and also serves as an executive committee member on the board of the Nepal Carpet Association. On the academia side, Krishna is the Treasurer on the board of the US Embassy School in Kathmandu. Although his formal education is technical with a Master’s in Software Engineering, he has sustainability in his DNA with 25+ years of hands-on experience and activism.

Vinicius Ladeira

Bio: He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Brasília and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás. Ana Carolina Dias B. de Souza

Bio: A native of Pará, she is an architect with a PhD in Electrical Engineering from UFPA. Bio: Iara Cardoso is a leading figure in environmental cinema. She holds degrees in cinema from NYFA/Universal Studios, documentaries and scientific narrative from MIT, and science journalism from Unicamp. Vanda Witoto

Bio: Vanda belongs to the Saúva clan, the Ant people. She has been a leader of her Witoto people since 2016. She graduated in pedagogy from the State University of Amazonas (UEA). Patrícia Chacón

Mathieu Piccin

He joined Schneider Electric in 2010 and opened the local offices of the company's Sustainable Business division in Latin America from 2012. He has a master's degree in aerospace engineering from Supaero - Toulouse (France) and is French, but has lived in South America since 2012. He speaks French, English, Portuguese and Spanish fluently.

André Facó

Bio: André Facó is the CEO of Águas do Pará. A civil engineer by training, he chose this field due to his interest in studying solutions to practical life problems. He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Sanitation from UFC and an MBA in Business Management from FGV. He was the CEO of Ambiental Ceará, a company that signed the largest public-private partnership (PPP) for sanitation in Brazil to universalize sanitation in 24 cities in Ceará. An executive in the Infrastructure sector, he has worked in Sanitation, Logistics, and Energy. He accumulated practical experience working at Transnordestina Logística, Copasa, Cearaportos, Cegás, and the Ceará State Infrastructure Secretariat. At the Ceará Water and Sewage Company (Cagece), he went from trainee to president (2004-2014), subsequently joining the company's Board of Directors.

Maria Netto

Bio: Maria NETTO is the Executive Director of the Institute for Climate and Society. She worked at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as a Principal Specialist in Capital Markets and Financial Institutions, and at the New Development Bank (NDB) as Head of the Division of Financial Institutions and Markets.

In both organizations, she was responsible for supervising programs of Innovative Financing Strategies with local financial institutions and capital markets to promote the financial inclusion and investments of the private sector in low carbon projects and resilience in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, including in sectors of land use, low carbon agriculture, renewable energy and energy efficiency, resilient and sustainable infrastructure and urban mobility, among others.

Maria Netto also worked previously at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), where she was responsible for supervising global projects to support the capacity building of countries and civil society to assess investments and financial flows and policy options to integrate green business in different sectors and economic activities. Finally, Maria Netto worked for more than 10 years at the secretariat of the Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), where, among others, she was responsible for leading the work of the institution in bilateral and multilateral financial cooperation, for the evaluation and monitoring of investments and financial flows to address climate change and the development of carbon market mechanisms under the Kyoto protocol. She has a master’s degree in economics from the Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.

Daniel Bento Teixeira

Irina Bacci

Bio: Irina Bacci is a human rights and environmental specialist with extensive experience in international cooperation, public policy, and the management of international cooperation projects. Holding a Master's degree in Human Rights from the University of Brasília (UnB), she has over 25 years of experience, having served as National Ombudsman for Human Rights at the then Secretariat of Human Rights of the Presidency of the Republic, program officer at UNFPA, and currently as Technical Director of PADF.

She has expertise in intergovernmental coordination, conflict mediation, and the coordination of multi-sectoral actions. Originally from São Paulo, Irina has lived in the Amazon for 5 years, working on international cooperation projects in a humanitarian and protection context based in vulnerable communities in Pará.

Andrea Brito Latgé

Bio: She is the Secretary of Policy and Strategic Programs (SEPPE) at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). She holds a degree in Physics and a PhD in Physics from the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), where she is a full professor. She is a CNPq 1A researcher and was elected a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in December 2023. She was Pro-Rector of Research, Postgraduate Studies and Innovation at UFF between 2018 and 2022.

She was also Research Coordinator, Postgraduate Studies Coordinator, and Academic Coordinator of International Relations at UFF. She served as Deputy Coordinator of the Physics and Astronomy Area at CAPES for 8 years.

She conducts research in the area of ​​Physics, with an emphasis on Electronic Properties of Condensed Matter, mainly focusing on the following topics: carbon nanomaterials, graphene, electronic transport, spintronics, straintronics, and valleytronics.

He has published around 150 scientific papers in high-impact international journals, has supervised numerous master's and doctoral students, and currently supervises postdoctoral researchers.
